Several distinct eye like formations sit across the face, each one built from tight, repeating rings of soft grey and white banding, some closing in on a small dark centre like a pupil. Around them, darker charcoal and taupe patches spread in a looser, cloud like texture, while thin lines of warm tan trace between the rings like veins of sediment laid down over time. The overall effect has real visual depth, with the banding giving each eye formation its own individual character.
Calcite is a calcium carbonate mineral found in an enormous range of colours, habits and banding patterns, from clear rhombs to the tightly ringed, eye like formations seen in this slice.
