A magnificent Lantian jade mountain sculpture of exceptional scale and artistry, carved from a single piece of rich olive and sage green jade into a dramatic landscape of soaring peaks, jagged ridges and deep valleys. Multiple spires rise from a broad base in a composition that evokes the dramatic karst mountain landscapes of classical Chinese painting, the tallest central peak flanked by a series of smaller formations of varying heights that create a beautifully balanced and deeply natural-looking skyline.
The jade itself is of excellent quality, its colour a rich and vivid olive green dappled throughout with deeper forest green and soft white tones that give the stone a wonderfully mottled, living quality. The polished surfaces catch the light with a characteristic jade lustre, while the carved ridges and valleys between the peaks have been left with a more textured finish that adds depth, shadow and an entirely convincing sense of natural rock formation.
