A beautifully hand carved Picture Jasper trinket pot, its rounded form polished to a soft gloss both inside and out. The lid and body are wrapped in the stone's natural scenic banding, warm bands of tan and gold broken by bold black patches and fine branching crack lines that continue their pattern seamlessly around the curve of the piece. A small brass ring pull sits at the centre of the lid, finished with a scalloped edge that echoes the organic movement of the stone beneath it. Lifted open, the hollowed interior reveals the same striking landscape patterning carried right through the bowl, making this as beautiful inside as it is out.

Picture Jasper is a microcrystalline variety of quartz (chalcedony) prized for the natural scenic patterns that give it its name. Bands and dendritic mineral inclusions combine to form scenes that resemble landscapes, from rolling hills to stormy skies, with no two pieces ever quite alike. It typically forms in shades of ivory, tan, brown and black, coloured by iron oxide and other trace minerals as the stone develops.
